So I recently picked up The Shape of Mercy which was published in “The Shape of Mercy is vintage Susan Meissner: tender storytelling that keeps you hooked; living, breathing characters that capture your heart and madden you, too; and a message of redemption that sticks with you. Anyway, The Shape of Mercy is a great book to read alone or alongside The Crucible like I did. The characters in both time periods draw you in to want to know what happens. Not remembering anything about the Salem Witch Trials, I had to look up at one point if Mercy Haysworth was a real person (she wasn't)/5.

― Susan Meissner, The Shape of Mercy I love that quote. If this book had a form, I have no doubt its form would be beautiful.

For me, this book is a five. It’s haunting and tragic and just so Marvelous and seamless in its writing. This book is about Lauren and Abilgail, a journal and the Salem Witch trials/5(). The Shape of Mercy is the first novel that I have read completely in a digital format and I have to admit, flicking through the digital pages of this novel (in which the characters are wearing gloves to carefully handle the fragile pages of an old diary) seemed rather ironic/5().

The Shape of Mercy totally exceeded all of my expectations. The writing is spare and lovely, and the way in which the stories of these three women - Mercy, the young Puritan girl; Abigail, the elderly librarian; and Lauren, the privileged college student - connect and intertwine was seamless and powerful.5/5(5).

The Shape of Mercy takes place in both present and past times. The past date is during the Salem Witch Trials. This event is rarely talked about because it is such a dark and frustrating part of history. People had their lives taken away The shape of mercy book of injustice, and others accused, judged and tried even though they were innocent.

The secrecy with which she keeps the diary and the clues about Mercy’s death is a bit odd, as is her behavior towards Lauren, refusing to allow her to look any of the history about Mercy on the internet. The publisher’s summary about the death of Mercy isn’t accurate either.

Overall the book is okay, with some good nuggets of wisdom. The lives of three women are connected in The Shape of Mercy by Susan Meissner, a powerful story about mercy, preconceived notions, and love.

Lauren Durough was brought into the world as a daughter in a wealthy family. Trying to get away from her haughty lifestyle, Lauren goes to college, lives on campus with a roommate, and decides to get a job/5(34). Mercy takes shape It is the eve of the release of my tenth novel, The Shape of Mercy.

Tomorrow it will hit the street, as they say. Every book I’ve written I’ve invested into it threads of myself. And I don’t just mean time and mental gymnastics. But this one This one emerged from somewhere deep inside me. The girl in between has learned that mercy is defined by its giver. Our flaws are obvious, yet we are loved and able to love, if we choose, because there is that bit of the divine still smoldering in us.” ― Susan Meissner, The Shape of MercyAuthor: Susan Meissner.
